  • Complete Construction Permit Application Jacket (Form UCC F-100) and Counter Form.  Documents must be signed and sealed by licensed contractors (other than owner occupied one family dwelling).

  • Yes, residents within 50 feet must be notified prior to commencing work.  Demolition permit must be provided with a demolition checklist.  All utilities must be disconnected.

  • Anytime work will be performed in Public Right-of-Way.  Work includes Road Openings for Utility Connection, Demolition Permits, sidewalk replacement, etc.  Harrison Police Department will determine if Police Traffic direction is required.

  • Dumpster Permits are obtained from Harrison Police Department.  Prior to obtaining Permit, a memorandum must be obtained from Construction Office.  Memorandum can only be issued after a letter describing purpose of dumpster or proof of permit.

  • Property owners are responsible for trees on private property.  Trees located in Right-of-way are maintained by the Town.  Tree removal must be approved by the Harrison Health Department.

  • One and two family dwellings require a smoke detector certification from Harrison Fire Prevention.  Multi-family residential buildings require submission of multiple dwelling certificates.  Commercial buildings require copy of annual sprinkler and/or fire alarm reports.

  • Yes.  A Certificate of Continued Occupancy is required for new tenants of a commercial space.

  • No.  Permits must be processed, paid and issued prior to start of construction work and scheduling of inspections.  Work performed prior to obtaining permits may be subject to violations and/or penalty.

  • A Zoning Permit is required for concrete, asphalt, stamped brick or any nonporous surface installation.

  • Yes.  If a shed is less than 100 square feet, a Zoning Permit is required.  If it is more than 100 square feet, both a Construction Permit and Zoning Permit are required.

  • Sign requirements can be located in the Harrison Land Development Ordinance.  Zoning permit is required if same sign is used but name is changed.  If completely new sign, Construction permit and zoning permits are required.

  • Applications made to the Planning Board must be submitted in accordance with the Standard Development Application.  Once an application is received with application fees and escrow deposits, a meeting of the Subdivision and Site Plan Review Committee (SSPRC) will be scheduled to determine completeness.  Once an application is determined to be complete it will be placed on the next regularly scheduled meeting.  (See Planning Board list of meeting dates).

Library Museum Pass

  • It can be reserved in person at the library or by telephone at 973-483-2366.

  • There is no charge to reserve the museum pass, but you must leave a $40.00 cash deposit when you pick up the pass, except for the American Museum of Natural History. * The deposit will be refunded when the pass is returned ON TIME. If the pass is not returned ON TIME, a fine of $10 per day will be charged. If the pass is stolen or lost, you may be charged a replacement cost.

  • You must live in Harrison and have an Adult Library card in good standing to place a reservation.. A pass cannot be reserved with a child's card. This is also the case for the American Museum of Natural History vouchers.

  • Day of use is the day you plan on visiting the museum. The pass can be picked up beginning at noon the day prior to the "Day of Use" and MUST be returned by 11
    a.m. the day after the "Day of Use" except for the American Museum of Natural History.

  • Reservations can be cancelled. Please let the library know of a cancellation as soon as possible since others may want to use the museum pass for that day.

  • Yes, you MUST present the library card that you used when reserving the pass to pick it up.

  • The pass must be returned to the Main Desk (DO NOT PUT IN BOOKDROP) by 11 a.m. after the Day of Use. If the library is closed, then by 11 a.m. on the next day the library is open, except for the American Museum of Natural History. The pass for the American Museum of Natural History is now a Voucher. You do not have to leave a deposit or return the pass. You are allowed 2 vouchers per adult library card per year.

Parking Permit

  • Your vehicle registration and driver’s license must list a valid Town of Harrison address. Additional documents may be required, such as a tax bill, lease, utility bill, or payroll stub.

  • All summonses for no permit must be resolved in court, even if you later obtain a permit. If your permit is improperly displayed, you may receive a summons and must appear in court if you wish to contest it.

  • No. Permits are issued for the specific vehicle listed on your application. If you sell or transfer your vehicle, you must remove and return the permit before applying for a new one.

  • You may apply for a Special Circumstance Resident Parking Permit. Issuance is subject to approval by the Police Department. Applications are accepted Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.

  • We recommend registering with the Town of Harrison Emergency Notification Service and following the Harrison Police on X @harrisonpolice for alerts on snow removal, road closures, and other important notifications.
