On January 18 at 5PM, officers were dispatched a Harrison Avenue address on a report of a burglary.  The victim stated he returned home and observed a male wearing all black exit the room he rents.  The suspect ran passed him and exited without a word.  He observed that his door had been kicked in and his wallet and bank cards and other items were missing.  The victim waited two hours to call the police.  Detective Joe Sloan, the lead investigator, collected evidence and reviewed surveillance video from nearby residences and businesses.  After observing the person that was described, a bulletin was created and distributed to outside law enforcement for assistance with identification.  On January 24 he and Detective Joe Nigro received a call from Belleville Police on a possible match.  The suspect was positively identified, charged and some of the most of the stolen property was recovered.

Residents are reminded that the Police should be their first call if they believe they have been the victim of a crime.  The sooner we have the details, the greater chance we have of collecting evidence, locating suspects and providing appropriate relief.
