Free parking in the Harrison Parking Deck next to the PATH Station will end, Sunday, February 1^st at 6PM.  To avoid being charged to exit the Garage, please make every effort to remove your vehicle by 6PM Sunday.

Again, free parking at the Harrison Parking Garage ends Sunday, February 1st 6PM.

This is a message from Mayor James A. Fife and the Harrison Town Council.

A MAJOR SNOWSTORM is forecast to hit Harrison Sunday into Monday.  To remove snow quickly from the Town’s streets, we have posted “NO PARKING” signs throughout the Town.

There will be NO PARKING on the following streets beginning 8:00AM on Sunday, January 25^th and until further notice:

          Harrison Avenue – from 2nd Street to Schuyler Avenue

          Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard – from Bergen Street to Scott Mobus Place

To help in the effort, we are opening the Harrison Parking Deck next to the PATH Station free of charge starting from 12:00PM Saturday, January 24^th until further notice.  No parking tickets will be issued; drive in and follow the signs to park inside the Deck. You must have a Harrison Resident Parking Permit.

Again, parking at the Harrison Parking Deck is free from 12:00PM Saturday until further notice.

In order to help alleviate parking issues during the holidays, the Town of Harrison is suspending Street Cleaning starting Monday, December 22, 2025, and ending January 2, 2026.  

Street Cleaning will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Quick Heat-Beating Tips

• If possible, stay out of the sun. When in the sun, wear sunscreen (at least SPF 15) and a hat to protect your face and head. 
• Use an air conditioner if you have one. Set the thermostat no lower than 78 degrees. 
• If you do not have an air conditioner, keep rooms well-ventilated with open windows and fans. Consider going to a public pool, air-conditioned store, mall, movie theater, or cooling center. 
• Fans work best at night, when they can bring in cooler air from outside. 
• Make a special effort to check on your neighbors during a heat wave, especially if they are seniors, young children, and people with special needs. Many older people live alone and could suffer unnecessarily in the heat because they are isolated from friends and family. 
• Seniors and others who may be sensitive to extreme heat should contact friends, neighbors, or relatives at least twice a day during a heat wave. 
• Drink fluids particularly water even if you do not feel thirsty. * Avoid beverages containing alcohol, caffeine, or high amounts of sugar. 
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing that covers as much of your skin as possible. 
• Never leave children, pets, or those who require special care in a parked car during periods of intense summer heat. 
• Avoid strenuous activity, especially during the sun's peak hours 11 AM to 4 PM. If you must engage in strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day, usually in the morning between 4 AM and 7 AM. 
• Cool showers or baths may be helpful but avoid extreme temperature changes. Never take a shower immediately after becoming overheated, extreme temperature changes may make you ill, nauseated, or dizzy.

The Harrison Police Department would like to inform the residents that the Town of Harrison will be affected by the current strike of the NJ Transit Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Union.  

Harrison will serve as a drop-off location for the NJ Transit customers affected by the strike.   This will entail approximately 100 buses dropping off affected patrons at the PATH Station at the south end of Harrison.  

The bus service will begin on Monday, May 19, 2025; please prepare for heavy traffic and plan accordingly.

The Harrison Water Dept. will flush hydrants throughout Harrison beginning the week of April 7^th 2025. Crews will work Monday through Friday between 9pm and 1am to minimize customer inconvenience. The flushing program is expected to last for about 6 weeks. Ending May 16^th 2025.

Flushing removes harmless minerals that collect in the water mains.  The project is part of the Town routine maintenance program to assure high water quality.  Flushing hydrants help to maintain the integrity of the distribution system by keeping the water lines clean.  It is also necessary for fire protection because flushing ensures that the hydrants are working properly.

During the flushing process, customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water.  While the water is safe to drink, customers may prefer to wait until it runs clear before drinking or washing clothes or dishes.

Harrison Police Department Announces DWI Checkpoint

Harrison, NJ –The Harrison Police Department will conduct a DWI checkpoint from Saturday evening, December 14, 2024, to early Sunday morning, December 15, 2024. This initiative underscores the department's commitment to ensuring the safety of the traveling public during the holiday season.

The checkpoint will be set up near the intersection of S. FER Blvd and Essex Street. Officers will be actively monitoring for signs of impaired driving due to alcohol and/or drugs. Our main goal is to keep our roads safe for everyone. We encourage all drivers to be responsible and plan ahead if they intend to consume alcohol.

The Harrison Police Department advises the community to consider alternative transportation options during this time. Public transit, taxicabs, and car services are recommended to ensure a safe journey home. Additionally, the department urges citizens to report any suspected impaired drivers by contacting law enforcement immediately.

This enforcement effort is part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing drunk driving incidents and enhancing community safety. The Harrison Police Department remains dedicated to protecting residents and visitors alike through proactive measures and community awareness.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — On Saturday, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy hosted a successful Hudson County Community Resource Fair with Mayor James Fife of Harrison, Mayor Dina Grilo of East Newark, and Congressman Rob Menendez (N.J.-08). The Hudson County Community Resource Fair connects county, local and federal resources to municipalities to bring critical resource directly to the community’s that need them.

"I’m proud to have hosted the Hudson County Community Resource Fair in partnership with Mayor Fife, Mayor Grilo, and Congressman Menendez this past weekend,” said Hudson County Executive Craig Guy. “Residents and their families attended the Resource Fair and were able to receive information on the different resource and services Hudson County has to offer them. It is critically important that all residents are aware and knowledgeable of the assistance and services available to them with the purpose to improve their quality of life.”

“Harrison is thankful to have been able to host the first Hudson County Community Resource Fair for the residents of Harrison and East Newark in partnership with County Executive Guy. Our community benefited immensely from this great collaborative effort – residents received vaccines, assistance when applying for economic and food assistance as well as information regarding employment opportunities,” said Mayor James Fife of Harrison.

“Residents of East Newark took full advantage of the Hudson County Community Resource Fair on Saturday, and I'm thankful to County Executive Guy, Mayor Fife, Congressman Menendez, and their teams for partnering with East Newark to make this event a reality,” said Mayor Dina Grilo of East Newark. “With over a dozen different departments available to residents, equipped with helpful staff and critical information, these Community Resource Fairs provide residents with the opportunities they need to succeed in Hudson County.”

Residents of Harrison and East Newark had the opportunity to access over a dozen resource tables that host various departments and agencies within the county that are available to directly provide critical resources and services - with translators available to assist all Spanish-speaking citizens.

As one of the many initiatives County Executive Guy has undertaken, the Hudson County Community Resource Fairs are collaborative efforts with municipalities aimed at meeting residents where they are, in their own communities, while bringing together city, county, and federal resources all in one place to directly help the people and families that need them. To date, County Executive Guy has hosted Resource Fairs in Bayonne, Kearny, Union City, Jersey City, Hoboken, Secaucus, West New York, and Harrison/East Newark.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Please be advised that Town will begin construction on the Davis Avenue medians this coming Monday, October 7.  The construction includes new raised decorative planters, installation of new flag poles and associated landscaping, and will last approximately 7 weeks.

No parking will be permitted in the designated work zone during working hours, typically Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.

The work zone will start between Central Avenue and Cross Street and will progressively move south toward Harrison Avenue.  The Harrison Police Department will post signage in advance.  

While Davis Avenue will remain open to vehicular traffic, there may be intermittent temporary closures. Davis Avenue will be fully open on nights and weekends.
