On September 18, a Harrison Resident reported to police that she recently became aware that there were several accounts open in her name that she did not initiate. An alert regarding a decrease in her credit score triggered the notification. She found that there
were more than 17 accounts that she was not aware of. She could not identify where her information
may have been compromised.
Identity theft and credit fraud are at an all-time
high. While many of these cases occur
through the internet when victims are careless with their information, a great
many cases still occur because residents don’t safeguard their mail, credit
card statements, etc.
