On February 13 at 8PM, Sergeant John Brown was engaged in Crime Suppression when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Bergen Street before running a red light. He conducted a motor vehicle stop and the driver, 35, from Harrison, immediately exited his vehicle and began walking back towards the officer. Despite several commands to return to the vehicle, the motorist ignored the Sergeant until he also exited his patrol car. The offender now began to walk away from the traffic stop altogether but not before throwing his license at Sergeant Brown who was now gaining on him. As the sergeant advised him he was under arrest he began flailing his arms, shouting profanities and threatening the officer. As Sergeant Brown struggled with handcuffing the offender, an off-duty corrections officer who had witnessed the incident assisted in the arrest moments before Sergeant Titterington and Officer Pat Triano arrived to back him up. The driver was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and numerous motor vehicle violations. No one was injured.
