On January 29 at 2PM, a Harrison Ave resident received a call from someone alleging to represent the Social Security Administration. They provided enough information to sound legitimate and attempted to convince the victim to provide banking information. The fraudulent caller even provided a reference number and claimed the Harrison Police would be calling shortly. As promised, the victim received a call from someone claiming to be a Harrison Police Officer; Caller ID even displayed ‘Harrison Police’.
This is an ongoing scam. No one from Social Security makes threats or requests information over the phone. Also it is not hard for scam artists to clone their phone numbers to make it appear that they are ‘legitimate’. Never provide any personal information over the phone unless you initiated the call. When in doubt, contact the Harrison Police at 973-483-4100.
