On October 9 at 2AM, Officer Michael Gregory was dispatched to the Jackson Street Bridge where he observed a vehicle had struck the curb and had a flat. The driver, 41 from Newark, appeared intoxicated and had an open bottle of beer in the vehicle. Officer Elizabeth DeLacruz arrived to assist. Officers conducted field sobriety test that the driver could not complete. He admitted to falling asleep and striking the curb. He was arrested and transported to headquarters where samples of his breath were tested. He was twice the legal limit and had open traffic warrants from Newark. He was charged with DWI and received motor vehicle summonses.
