On October 1 at 8PM, Sergeant Corey Karas was engaged in Crime Suppression and observed a male, dressed in black, attempting to conceal his face and running from an area that has been the subject of thefts from auto. He used his patrol vehicle to get ahead of the subject, exited and called out for him to stop. The suspect immediately ran around a vehicle in attempt to escape and threw a pack of cigarettes to the ground. A Kearny Police Unit was in the area, observed the interaction and stopped the suspect. Sgt. Karas recovered suspected heroin from the pack of cigarettes and placed the suspect, 33 from Harrison, under arrest. He was charged with possession and turned over to the County Jail.
